  • Surveying the library at Hatfield House (with my colleague Peter Hoare)
  • Writing a collections management policy for Hatfield House and advising on the cataloguing strategy
  • Surveying an uncatalogued collection of non-conformist literature in the Angus Library, Regent’s Park College, Oxford (as part of an HLF-funded enablement project)
  • Cataloguing historic libraries at National Trust properties, such as Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey, Erddig, Mount Stewart and Sudbury Museum of Childhood
  • Presenting talks to volunteers and members of the public about collections
  • Creating blog posts, Twitter and Facebook updates

History projects

  • Coordinating a project to restore the Hermitage at Kedleston Hall (NT)
  • Undertaking an options appraisal for Kedleston’s garden buildings and their future presentation. This involved commissioning archaeological, arboricultural and structural engineering surveys, with all information presented in a comprehensive report
  • Supporting the creation of Conservation Management Plans for the Pleasure Grounds and Stables at Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire (Hilary Taylor Landscape Associates; Nick Cox Architects, both for the National Trust)
  • Researching the history of the gardens at Norbury Manor (NT) for a Garden Management Plan
  • Researching an object for Christie’s in London
  • Writing a room history for part of the ground floor at Kedleston Hall (NT) with a view to opening two additional rooms to the public

Writing projects

  • Contributing a chapter on dead and dying bodies in the Middle Ages for A cultural history of death (Bloomsbury, forthcoming)
  • Researching and writing articles on Kedleston’s Hermitage for magazines, the project website, and on-site interpretation panels
  • Maintaining a regular blog about my work as a librarian
  • Publishing articles in different media
